DeVito, McKnight to play

12/16/2011

Mike DeVito will be on the field for the Jets this Sunday when the Jets head to Philadelphia for a 4:15 game. The defensive end missed two games with a knee injury. It was the second time the reliable DeVito missed a two-game stretch for the Jets with a knee injury, but earlier in the season it was his other knee.

“It’s great to have him back,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said Friday. “He was having a huge year for us and now to have him back, the other guys can back up. They’ve had a lot of playing time, so you’re getting better, your depth is getting better.”

Ryan singled out DT Marcus Dixon and rookie DL Muhammad Wilkerson, “it’s a good group.”

MCKNIGHT RETURNS: Also back, RB Joe McKnight, who hyperextended his elbow in Washington and missed the Chiefs game. McKnight has a high-tech custom elbow brace that will prevent him from a similar injury. McKnight fell on the elbow in Thursday’s practice, which Ryan said was a good test for whether he would be able to play.

McKnight must have passed, because he will not only play but Ryan said he will also return kickoffs.

STOCKING COLE: CB Marquice Cole will not play with a knee injury. He was kicked during the Chiefs game, and returned to the game but has not practiced with the team this week. At his locker, Cole said that he was feeling better so perhaps this won’t be a long-term rehab.
