Smith played with torn meniscus
By Mike Mazzeo
Jets S Eric Smith played the last five weeks of the season with a torn meniscus in his knee, he told ESPN NewYork.com’s Jane McManus on Monday.
Smith will have his knee scoped on Wednesday in the New York City area. The 28-year-old said he suffered the injury during the week of practice before his team’s 34-19 victory over the Redskins on Dec. 4.
Smith, a six-year veteran, finished the 2011 campaign with 89 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception. However, his season will likely always be remembered for his missed diving tackles on Broncos QB Tim Tebow on his game-winning 20-yard touchdown run and Giants WR Victor Cruz on his 99-yard touchdown catch.
LG Matt Slauson will undergo an MRI on his shoulder on Tuesday, he told reporters. Slauson originally suffered the injury in December 2010 in New England and it became bothersome in the last few weeks of this season.
The 25-year-old has started every game the last two seasons.
