PM practice report: Get your kicks

By Rich Cimini

Because of rain in the forecast, the 4:15 special-teams practice was moved up 15 minutes. They practiced for less than an hour (no rain), with a concentration on kickoff returns.

The main kickoff returners were rookie Joe McKnight, Brad Smith, Aundrae Allison and Larry Taylor. The Jets should have a formidable three-man "wedge," with Rob Turner, Mike DeVito and rookie John (The Terminator) Conner in those vital positions. Nick Folk was booming kicks into the end zone.

The real news came after practice, when owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum addressed the media, responding to reports about the latest contract proposal made by Darrelle Revis' agents. I've covered Johnson a long time, through many highs and lows, and I never saw him this grim faced.

Asked point blank if he's optimistic about signing Revis to a new deal before the start of the regular season, Johnson said, "The answer is no."
