Coples figures to land close to $9 million
By Rich Cimini
On Monday, Seahawks DE Bruce Irvin became the first first-round pick to sign a contract. He was taken 15th overall, one spot ahead of where the Jets selected DE Quinton Coples. Things are moving quickly because there is a rookie wage scale in the new CBA.
That said, Coples will sign a four-year deal for about $9 million, fully guaranteed, including roughly a $5 million signing bonus. Consider:
15th overall -- Dolphins C Mike Pouncey: four years, $9.2 million, fully guaranteed (approximately $5 million signing bonus).
16th overall -- Redskins LB Ryan Kerrigan: four years, $8.72 million, fully guaranteed ($4.842 million signing bonus).
15th overall -- Seahawks DE Bruce Irvin: four years, $9.34 million, fully guaranteed (more than $5 million signing bonus).
