Maysonet arrives with something to prove
By Rich Cimini
INDIANAPOLIS -- Miguel Maysonet, Stony Brook's record-setting running back, arrived at the scouting combine with a chip on his shoulder.
"I have to prove to people I belong here," he told the media Friday.
The small-school phenom, trying to become the first draft pick in Stony Brook history, won't be able to give NFL scouts a full demonstration of his ability. Still bothered by a hamstring injury from early January, Maysonet said he will skip the 40-yard dash during Sunday's running back drills, pushing it back to his pro day, March 21. He's still planning to participate in the bench press and various agility drills.
"When (the injury) first happened, I was beyond frustrated because I feel like I'm letting people down that are supporting me," he said.
Scouts are eager to test Maysonet's speed, but he'll get that chance during his on-campus pro day. From a height/weight standpoint, he checked in as expected -- 5-foot-9, 209 pounds.
