Busy day: Revis OK, Tebow here, 'Tone not
By Rich Cimini
Catching you up on Monday's developments with the Jets, who began their offseason program:
1. Revis update: As expected, Darrelle Revis reported at 8 a.m. to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, where he met with his knee surgeon, Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants' orthopedist. Revis underwent an MRI exam and it confirmed that he's on schedule in his rehab, according to a source. Revis was cleared to begin running without restriction.
Will this have any impact on trade talks with the Bucs? Not likely. Before completing a blockbuster deal, the Bucs likely would fly Revis to Tampa to have their doctors examine his surgically repaired knee. Even though Revis received a thumbs-up from Warren, there still would be some risk for the Bucs, considering the severity of the injury and the nature of his position. He's six months removed from ACL surgery.
Revis was scheduled to arrive at the Jets' facility Monday afternoon, when he will continue his rehab under the supervision of trainer John Mellody. Revis also may have his first face-to-face meeting with GM John Idzik. The Jets' doctors are expected to review the MRI results.
2. Austin Power: RT Austin Howard, a restricted free agent, signed his one-year, $2 million tender, the team announced. He showed up for the first day of voluntary workouts. This isn't a Victor Cruz situation; there was never a doubt about his reporting.
3. Here's Tim: As promised, backup QB Tim Tebow arrived for the offseason program, showing up around 6:30 a.m. -- 90 minutes before Rex Ryan's team meeting. Tebow is in limbo, but he's intent on working out with the team until told otherwise. Unlike Revis, Tebow has no workout bonus, so there's no financial incentive for him to be there.
4. Not Holmes: WR Santonio Holmes was a no-show, but that came as no surprise. Previously, he informed the team he wouldn't attend the workouts, which are voluntary. He's rehabbing his surgically repaired foot on his own and taking classes at Ohio State. Like Tebow, he doesn't have a workout bonus.
