Ryan wears sweater vest to 'cover up the boiler'

By Mike Mazzeo

Just as the Jets' beat reporters were about to get down to business -- pelting coach Rex Ryan with questions regarding Antonio Cromartie’s choice words toward Tom Brady and the short-term affects of Damien Woody (achilles) being placed on injured reserve -- someone else jumped in and asked Ryan why he sports his infamous sweater vest combo on game days.

“I was trying to cover up the boiler [slang for protruding gut] and I thought that was the best way to do it,” Ryan said as laughter ensued from the standing room only crowd inside the media room at the team's practice facility.

Ryan’s look has even caught on with fans, who have been seen at New Meadowlands Stadium on Sundays rocking similar attire.

“It is a style that should be copied I would think,” Ryan said. “I could see why they would wanna have that look.”
