More details on Jalen Saunders' accident
By Rich Cimini
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- A couple of details have emerged with regard to Jalen Saunders' one-car accident last Friday in Florham Park, N.J.
The New York Jets' rookie wide receiver "experienced a medical event" while making a left turn less than a mile from the team's facility, according to the Florham Park police report, which doesn't include any details of the medical event.
Saunders didn't make a full left turn and proceeded on an angle across the north-bound lanes on Park Avenue, striking a curb. His vehicle, a 2014 Toyota Corolla, continued forward, leaving the roadway and stopping in high grass. Obviously, he was lucky there was no oncoming traffic. The vehicle was towed to the Jets' facility.
Saunders was not given a drug or alcohol test at the scene, the police record said. The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. ET. There is no pending investigation; the case is closed.
The Jets haven't commented on Saunders' status, except to say he still was in the hospital as of Saturday. Their initial statement said only that he was involved in a single-car accident and had been taken to the hospital as a precaution for monitoring. The team probably isn't commenting because of health privacy laws.
