Jets get love from Rick Reilly in re-drafts
By Rich Cimini
Kids call it a do-over. Golfers call it a mulligan. Football writers call it a re-draft, a look back at how a particular draft should've gone based on what we know now.
ESPN columnist Rick Reilly undertakes that exercise in a re-draft of 2006, 2007 and 2008. The Jets score big in 2006 and 2007, placing four players in the top 10 -- the so-called Core Four. All-purpose weapon Brad Smith, a fourth-round choice in '06, also sneaks into the new first round.
It's a credit to Mike Tannenbaum and the scouting department. Alas, it's not all good news. LB/DE Vernon Gholston, the sixth choice in 2008, goes undrafted in Reilly's re-do.
Here's where Reilly has the Jets ranked in his re-drafts, with the actual draft position in parentheses:
4. C Nick Mangold (29)
5. LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson (5)
2. CB Darrelle Revis (14)
10. LB David Harris (47)
32. TE Dustin Keller (30)
