Jets contribute to another HC's demise

By Rich Cimini

Less than 24 hours after getting spanked by the Jets, the Chiefs fired coach Todd Haley, the team announced on its website.

Wow, that seems like a knee-jerk reaction, but multiple reports say there was friction between Haley and GM Scott Pioli, and that a divorce was inevitable.

The Chiefs were shockingly ill-prepared and undisciplined against the Jets, accumulating 11 penalties for 128 yards (including unsportsmanlike conduct on Haley), but their quarterback was Tyler Palko. No coach could win with Tyler Palko. Is that Haley's fault?

This means the Jets are 2-0 against teams that fired their head coach. In Week 2, they routed the Jaguars, 32-3, and they eventually canned Jack Del Rio. What's more, the Jets' final three opponents have head coaches whose job security has been the subject of speculation.

Eagles (5-8): Andy Reid
Giants (7-6): Tom Coughlin
Dolphins (4-9): Tony Sparano

In fact, the Miami Herald has reported that Sparano will be fired after the season. Some Jets fans on Twitter already are wondering if the Jets would hire Haley, who began his career as a Jets assistant, to replace offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Let me tell you something: Barring a collapse, Schottenheimer, signed through 2013, isn't going anywhere.

UPDATE: According to multiple reports, the Dolphins fired Sparano Monday. That makes the Jets 3-0 in this category. On Oct. 17, they beat the Dolphins, 24-6. Their three most lopsided wins came against coaches that were headed to unemployment.
