Tyson: We can still win the title if...

Tyson Chandler won a championship with the Mavericks last season.

In his first official day as Knick, Chandler said the team had enough talent to bring a title to New York.

Nearly two months later, the Knicks are in a tailspin. They've lost nine of ten and sit six games below .500, in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.

Despite all of that (and delusionally, some would say) Chandler still believes the Knicks -- if healthy -- can win a title.

"In all honestly, I still feel like this is a team that can win a championship. I feel like we definitely have the pieces," Chandler said on Monday. "I feel like we haven’t come together yet. It’s a process ... I feel like guys are going to have to step up and play roles that they are not necessarily used to. We get everybody back healthy, we get everybody on the floor at one time, then we’ll see what we got."

The Knicks have lost nine of ten and have been without Carmelo Anthony for the past two games due to various injuries. Anthony is doubtful for Tuesday's home game against Detroit due to an ankle ailment. He will test the injury on Tuesday morning before making a final decision.

"You’d rather him be feeling better before he tries to rush back. Same thing with Baron (Davis, out with a back injury). We want them for the long haul, not in and out of the lineup. We want them to be close to 100%," Chandler said.

Chandler would also like to see some consistency from the Knicks' offense. Entering play Monday, the Knicks ranked 24th in offensive efficiency, which measures points per 100 possessions.

Chandler didn't expect the Knicks, a team loaded with offensive talent, to struggle so mightily on the offensive end.

"No. Given the history, our success has always been on offense and lacking on the defense. The defense has picked up , but we are struggling offensively. We have to find a way to make it work," he said.
