Here are three things I'm hearing with the NBA draft now underway:
1. I've been told the Knicks would be interested in drafting a point guard, because they're depleted in that area with really only Lin planning to be on the roster. But it doesn't sound like they fell in love with anyone during the pre-draft process. Therefore, their priority with the 48th pick is to select a shooter, as they ranked towards the bottom of the league in 3-point percentage last season.
Their top guy is likely Kim English out of Missouri, but he has been hot during his individual workouts and his stock has climbed. If English is not available, other choices include Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom (Marquette), Kevin Murphy (Tennessee Tech) and Hollis Thompson (Georgetown).
2. According to two sources, the Knicks will likely not make any trades tonight (definitely not any major ones, at least). Their focus is free agency and re-signing Jeremy Lin, Steve Novak, J.R. Smith and Landry Fields, as well as locking up a few other roster spots with veterans -- perhaps a seasoned point guard and big man.
3. The standout name on the Knicks' trade list is Toney Douglas, but he will likely be traded at a later date. Douglas has been recently training at the Knicks' training facility, but that could change very soon.
