Raymond Felton certainly didn't mince words in his first Q&A session with reporters on Monday.

He was blunt and brutally honest about his poor conditioning last year.

"I want to get it out there -- I came into Portland out of shape," Felton said. "Being in a lockout year, I just got really relaxed, got complacent, didn’t work as hard because I didn’t think we were to have a season. I’m going to go ahead and say that -- I was out of shape when we first went there. I played myself into shape towards the second half of the season."

Felton struggled in Portland this past season, averaging just 11.5 points and 6.5 assists on 41 percent shooting. But he looked to be in great shape on Monday. According to team staff who have seen Felton working out in Greenburgh, the 28-year-old is in peak condition.

Felton's physique is a hot topic around the Knicks. New York hopes that Felton can return to the form he showed in his previous stint with the Knicks in 2010-11, when he averaged 17 points and nine assists per game.

Felton is expected to start in front of Jason Kidd and third-string point guard Pablo Prigioni, though Woodson did not declare a starter on Monday.

Regardless of whether he's starting or coming off the bench, Felton will be plenty motivated to silence his critics.

"I’ve got a big, big chip on my shoulder. so I look forward to this season and I’m definitely happy to be back in this New York Knicks jersey," Felton said.

Question: Do you have faith in Felton?

SHOOTING GUARD SEEMS WIDE OPEN: Woodson also would not commit to a starting shooting guard on Monday. It's understandable, considering the season opener is a month away.

Woodson said he would use training camp to determine who gets the nod as the starting off guard.

The competition seems to be between J.R. Smith and Ronnie Brewer. Brewer will be sidelined for another 2-3 weeks as he returns from offseason knee surgery.
