Amar'e Stoudemire will get his first start of the preseason Friday night at the Bell Centre, the Knicks revealed at morning shootaround.

But Mike Woodson plans to sit him out Saturday night against the Boston Celtics at the Times Union Center in Albany. In preparation for three games in four nights, Woody doesn't want to overextend the power forward.

"We'll play him tonight, see how he feels, sit him in the back-to-back, then bring him back Monday," the coach said.

For the first time, the Raptors will get to see Stoudemire's "new jewels" -- which he refers to as the post moves he developed in the offseason under the tutelage of Hakeem Olajuwon. Earlier in the week, Woodson discussed the evolution of STAT's post game in the offense.

"It's going to be very important," he said. "I think we've got an opportunity where we can take advantage of our post play. We have such great perimeter players, great shooters on the wing, so if we can establish a back-to-the-basket game to get some easy baskets in the paint, that's another element to our offense."

INJURY REPORT: Ronnie Brewer made the trip to Montreal, but he won't play Friday or in the next three preseason games. The shooting guard, who's likely to start on opening night, will participate in workouts and shootarounds on the road, but Woodson doesn’t want to play him until he scrimmages in practice.

In Brewer's absence (and J.R. Smith, who didn't make the trip because of a sore Achilles), the Knicks will likely start James White at shooting guard. While Smith's injury looked more serious during practice as he wore a walking boot, it will not require an MRI.

Other players sidelined for tonight include Marcus Camby (left calf strain) and Rasheed Wallace (conditioning).

OTHER NOTES: The Knicks-Raptors matchup will be the first time Landry Fields faces his former team.
