Knicks fans know all too well how much Brandon Jennings enjoys playing in Madison Square Garden.

It seems ever since New York opted to draft Jordan Hill over Jennings back in the 2009 NBA Draft, Jennings has -- at times -- haunted the Knicks. He's scored 20.5 points per game in five career trips to the the Garden.

Now that Jennings has expressed a desire to leave Milwaukee, according to ESPN Insider Chad Ford, should the Knicks make a run at him?

Um, no.

First off, the Knicks would not be in an optimal position to sign Jennings to a long-term contract after this season, when Jennings is a restricted free agent, or next. For the time being, their books are tied up with money owed to Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler and Steve Novak, among others.

Second, they don’t have the pieces to pry Jennings from Milwaukee. We don’t think a deal packaged around Iman Shumpert will get it done. And they can’t trade a first-round pick because, per NBA rules, teams can’t trade first-round picks in consecutive seasons.

Lastly, Jennings wouldn’t fit well in the Knicks’ system. He isn’t the distribution-focused lead guard New York needs. Jennings often plays with a shoot-first, pass-later mentality that would not mesh well with Melo, who is New York’s unquestioned No. 1 option on offense.

The Knicks are a win-now team that’s been run relatively well by Raymond Felton. There’s no need to shake things up by bringing in Jennings.

Question: What do you think? Should the Knicks pursue Jennings or leave it alone?
