Every weekday throughout the season, ESPNNewYork.com will tackle a burning question about the Knicks in our "Opening Tip" segment.
Today's Burning Question: The Knicks are confident that they have a legitimate shot to win an NBA title. Are you?
One Las Vegas sports book, Bovada, recently posted odds for the NBA championship.
The site lists the Knicks as having the fifth-highest odds to win the title (14/1). New York is behind the Heat, Thunder, Spurs and Clippers, respectively.
They are ahead of the Bulls, Celtics, Pacers and Lakers.
If you ask Mike Woodson, though, he might tell you that those odds are a bit unfair.
"I think we still got a legitimate shot, absolutely. Absolutely," Woodson said last week when asked if he thought the Knicks had a chance to win the title.
From Woodson on down, the Knicks, who enter the second half four games behind Miami for the top spot in the Eastern Conference with 32 games to play, are confident that they have a good shot to snap the franchise’s 40-season title drought.
"Our confidence is not going nowhere," Carmelo Anthony said. "We’re still competing for the first, No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, still top of our division. ... We’ve just got to regroup as a team and after the break come back ready to rock."
When asked if he agreed with Woodson’s assessment, Tyson Chandler didn’t hesitate.
"100 percent ... I only had one time in my career and that was the year we won. And this year, we've got a shot," Chandler said.
But how good is that shot?
QUESTION: Vegas says the Knicks have a decent shot to win a title. The Knicks say they have a legitimate shot. What do you think?
