"We've got to keep moving up," Iman Shumpert said. "We've had some slippage. We've got to keep moving up. We've definitely got to get Miami."
The Knicks have a prime opportunity to chip away at the Miami lead on Sunday when the Heat come to Madison Square Garden.
The Heat have won 13 straight, but have lost both games against the Knicks this season.
“We’re going to have to take it to their level,’’ Raymond Felton said. “It’s a big game. If we win this game, it could mean a lot down the stretch, having the tiebreaker against them.’’
The Knicks are a long way from needing a tie-breaker against the Heat. But Sunday's game will be a good measuring stick for New York, which won its first two games against Miami during a red hot 18-5 start.
The Knicks have dealt with injuries and subpar play since that start. They are 17-14 since Dec. 15.
Anthony, though, thinks the Knicks in recent days have regained some of the confidence they played with in their strong start.
"We always felt like we were one of the better teams anyway. We will be prepared for Miami," Anthony said. "We know they have a hell of a hot streak, the guys on their team are playing extremely well. At the end of the day, we kind of worry about ourselves. We control our own destiny."
Anthony also knows the Heat are much improved from the team the Knicks beat by 20 points on Dec. 6 with Anthony sidelined due to injury.
"They’re a great team. They’re going to make adjustments," he said after scoring 30 points in a win over the Wizards, the Knicks' third straight. "So the main thing is just figure the game out, stick to our schemes, stick to what we do. There’s going to be a couple of adjustments, maybe a lot of adjustments throughout the game. We’ve just got to be prepared."
