NEW YORK -- Tyson Chandler will miss Friday's game against the Charlotte Bobcats -- his ninth straight -- because of a lingering neck injury.

Chandler continues to get treatment from the medical staff on his injury. Mike Woodson says the team has not taken any additional measures -- such as administering a cortisone shot -- to treat the neck ailment, which is being described by the team as a bulging disk in Chandler's cervical spine.

Woodson added that the team is being cautious in its approach with Chandler.

"There's always concern coming out of our locker room, but he's going to be fine," Woodson said. "We've just got to get him back out on the court. When that's going to be I don't know. We're just being cautious of his injury and he's going through treatment and eventually he'll be back."

The Knicks are 6-2 in Chandler's absence. The All-Star center went down with the neck injury following a collision with Kenneth Faried on March 13.

New York is riding an NBA-high six-game winning streak heading into Friday's game against Charlotte.

The Knicks have been stout on defense with Chandler out.

New York has held its last six opponents under 47.5 percent shooting and has surrendered more than 100 points just once in that span.

Woodson credits the emergence of veteran Kenyon Martin for the defense's recent success.

"(He's) had a lot to do with that and as a unit we've been really tight with how we're rotating," Woodson said.

Chandler said Tuesday that he still feels lingering pain and "spasms," as well as painful sensation from his neck to his shoulders, from the small bulging disk in his neck.

Earlier this week, he made it sound as if he was in no rush to return to the court.

"This is not going to be something that I'm just going to be able to fight through," said Chandler, who is averaging 10.7 points, 11 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.

With Chandler out, Woodson will start Pablo Prigioni, Raymond Felton, Iman Shumpert, Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin against the Bobcats.
