The Knicks have announced the signing of small forward Quentin Richardson, who played in New York from 2005-09.

Because Richardson hasn't suited up this season, he's playoff-eligible and brings the team's roster to a maximum of 15.

In 12 years in the NBA, Richardson, 33, has averaged 10.3 points and shot a respectable 35.5 percent from 3-point range.

"It gives us one more perimeter guy that can defend a little bit, that can make shots and space the floor like we play," Mike Woodson said Tuesday on ESPN New York 98.7 FM radio. "I just think it adds to what we're trying to do.

"We do have a lot of perimeter guys, but my thing has always been whoever plays, you've got to make the most out of your minutes. And if we get somebody in the game that's struggling a little bit, then maybe I can turn to Quentin ... to get it done. That's the reason for bringing him to our ballclub."

Richardson last played in the league for the Magic in 2011-12, averaging 4.5 points and 2.6 rebounds over 18 minutes in 48 games. He has appeared in 31 postseason games (21 starts), averaging 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds over 28.5 minutes.
