Less than 48 hours after sweating out a Game 6 win Friday night against the Celtics, the Knicks will get right back to work on Sunday afternoon, in Game 1 of their series against the Indiana Pacers.
Here are a few things to keep an eye on during Game 1. Tipoff is at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
HOW WILL MELO DO? Carmelo Anthony could see a heavy dose of Paul George against the Pacers, or he could see plenty of David West. It's unclear how Indiana will try to slow down the Knicks' superstar. But they had a decent amount of success against him in the regular season.
In the Knicks' four regular-season matchups against Indiana, Carmelo was 19-for-49 from the field when guarded by Paul George, according to ESPN Stats and Information. He drew three fouls against George. When not matched up with George, Anthony was also defended by David West and Sam Young, who forced hint to go a combined 4-for-11 from the floor, per ESPN Stats and Information.
But, statistically, the Knicks' offense went into a bit of a tailspin against the C's.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Knicks are shooting an NBA-low 41.2 percent from the field and averaging just 96.9 points per 100 possessions this postseason.
It's a pretty steep departure from the numbers they put up in the regular season: 108.6 points per 100 possessions, the third-best rate in the NBA.
But, against Indiana, the Knicks offense struggled. The Pacers held the Knicks to just 91.8 points per 100 possessions, the lowest output by New York against any single opponent this season.
BOARD GAMES: The Knicks have their hands full with Indiana on the boards. The Pacers outrebounded the Hawks by a postseason-high 11 rebounds per game in their first-round win. They rebounded a playoff-high 56.3 percent of their misses. The Knicks had the fourth-best rebound differential (plus-3.3) and they rebounded 52 percent of missed shots, the No. 4 rate in the league.
