A spokesperson for Metta World Peace confirmed with ESPNNewYork.com that the newest Knick is weighing submissions on the social media platform for his new nickname when he returns home this fall. World Peace was born in Queens and played college ball at St. John's -- then known as Ron Artest.
This week, World Peace said in an interview with ClevverNews that he plans to change his name this upcoming season, though not legally. The New Yorker legally changed his name to Metta World Peace in September 2011. He said at the time that he wanted to "inspire and bring youth together all around the world."
The spokesperson wouldn't confirm how World Peace's new nickname would be used in New York -- whether it's on the back of his jersey or said by the Knicks' PA announcer.
Stay tuned for more details.
