Opening Tip: Start Bargnani or MWP?

For most of the preseason, it seemed as if Mike Woodson was committed to starting Andrea Bargnani at power forward.

But something's changed in the past few days.

Woodson mentioned that there's a possibility Metta World Peace could start over Bargnani when the Knicks open the season Wednesday against Milwaukee.

"I don't know yet," Woodson said Monday. "I really don't."

So Bargnani, the Knicks' biggest offseason acquisition, could start the season on the bench.

Now, Woodson may have been hesitant to name his starting lineup on Monday, two days before the season opener. But he could be turned off after watching Bargnani's subpar preseason.

The seven-footer shot just 38 percent from the field in seven preseason games. New York was outscored by 65 points in Bargnani's 170 minutes on the floor.

Putting World Peace in the starting lineup could help the Knicks on defense. It could also allow Anthony to shift back to power forward, where he established himself as the top scorer in the NBA last season.

Anthony says the Knicks will be ready to go on Wednesday regardless of who is in the starting lineup.

"Whatever coach's decision is, we're going to ride with that," Anthony said.

Which brings us to our question: If you were Woodson, would you start World Peace or Bargnani?

UP NOW: It's official: Chris Smith, the younger brother of J.R. Smith, is on the Knicks' regular-season roster. Smith, Toure' Murry and Cole Aldrich all made the Knicks' roster out of training camp. Smith's contract, per league sources, is now fully guaranteed.

The Knicks also picked up Iman Shumpert's fourth-year option on Monday. He is under contract through 2014-15. Shumpert missed practice due to general soreness. His competition with J.R. Smith for the starting shooting guard spot will begin on Nov. 10, when Smith makes his season debut.

Knick critic Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith say Carmelo Anthony should concentrate on getting players to come to New York rather than talking about his pending free agency.

Also, Anthony and Chandler chimed in on the possibility of Woodson starting World Peace instead of Bargnani.

Lastly, we asked you which players you would include in your 10-man rotation if you were in charge of the Knicks.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Knicks will practice on Tuesday. They being the season on Wednesday at home against Milwaukee.
