Melo: Nets won a home game, that's it

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Some Nets fans may think their team made an early-season statement by beating the Miami Heat on Friday.

But Carmelo Anthony doesn't see it that way.

“I would hope they do their job and win on their home court," Anthony said after Saturday's practice. "That’s what you’re supposed to do, win on your home court. They handled that.”

This doesn't exactly qualify as trash talk, but it's mildly interesting that Anthony didn't want to give the Nets any credit.

It speaks to the growing rivalry between the Knicks and Nets. Players on both sides engaged in a war of words of sorts in the media over the summer.

The Knicks and Nets first play this season on Dec. 5 at the Barclays Center.

Going big versus Wolves: Mike Woodson said his plan, for now, is to go with a big lineup against teams with bigger frontcourts. So he will play a big lineup Sunday against the Timberwolves, which boast Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic up front.

That means Tyson Chandler, Anthony and Andrea Bargnani will likely start on the front line and Iman Shumpert and Raymond Felton will get the nod in the backcourt.

Woodson said he plans to play a smaller lineup -- one featuring two point guards and Anthony at power forward -- against smaller teams.

Will Hardaway be odd man out? Woodson and Anthony were highly complimentary of rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. on Saturday. The Knicks' first-round pick had 10 points on 4-for-13 shooting in 27 minutes against the Bulls on Thursday. He played all but five seconds of the fourth quarter.

"His confidence is sky-high," Anthony said.

But he may not stay in the rotation once J.R. Smith returns to the lineup.

Smith is serving a five-game suspension for a failed drug test. He is expected to return to the lineup Nov. 10 against San Antonio.

Once Smith returns, Woodson will have to divide minutes at shooting guard among Smith, Shumpert, Prigioni (against smaller teams) and Hardaway.

"It is a logjam. That's a good problem to have," Woodson said. "But somebody's not going to be able to play a lot of minutes, so they've just got to understand that."

Melo's 'T' rescinded: The NBA has rescinded Anthony's technical foul from Wednesday's home opener against Milwaukee.

Day off: Felton and Shumpert did not scrimmage with the Knicks on Saturday. The team says both players were resting.
