Opening Tip: Add a big man?

Sometime on Thursday, Mike Woodson sat down with Knicks president/GM Steve Mills and assistant GM Alan Houston to discuss the possibility of adding a big man to the roster in the wake of the Tyson Chandler injury.

The Knicks probably fielded several calls from teams desperate to dump an underperforming big man. They also probably made a list of potential free agents available.

One player they have already reached out to is Lou Amundson, sources told ESPNNewYork. Surely, Amundson isn't the only player they touched base with. Forward Ike Diogu, center Earl Barron and center Hilton Armstrong are among the other big men available. The Knicks are high on center Jeremy Tyler, but he's not expected to be healthy enough to play for another four weeks.

It's important to remember that if the Knicks want to add a player, they'll have to cut someone currently on the roster.

Toure' Murry, Chris Smith and Cole Aldrich are the likely candidates to be cut in this scenario, because all three players are under non-guaranteed deals.

The Knicks can also try to tread water with the players currently on the roster, but they don't have any obvious replacements. Andrea Bargnani is known as a weak defender. Same goes for Amar'e Stoudemire. Kenyon Martin is limited by injury and Cole Aldrich is inexperienced.

We bring all of this up to raise the question: if you were running the Knicks, would you try to add a big man or play with what you have? If you want to add someone, who would it be? And who would you cut?

UP NOW: Raymond Felton offered a rare public apology to fans for the Knicks' slow start. Woodson says Bargnani will see major minutes at center. Here's a look at what that might mean for the Knicks. Lastly, Tyson Chandler hopes to be fully healed and back on the court in four weeks. The timetable for return from his fractured right fibula is 4-6 weeks.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Knicks will have shoot around on Friday morning to prepare for Friday night's game against Charlotte.

QUESTION: If you were running the Knicks, would you try to add a big man or play with what you have? If you want to add someone, who would it be? And who would you cut?
