GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Carmelo Anthony insists he's focused on getting the Knicks out of the basement of the Atlantic Division -- not on his pending free agency.

"Nobody should be worried about me. I’m going to be fine. I’m not even thinking about contracts or B.S. like that," Anthony said. "I’ll think about that in the offseason. Right now, my duty is to lead this team to win some basketball games, hopefully to win a championship. That’s my duty. Nobody should be worried about Carmelo Anthony."

Anthony intends to opt out of the final year of his contract and test free agency this summer.

The Knicks can offer him an extra year and $30 million more than other suitors. But if the Knicks continue to struggle, you have to wonder if Anthony will take his title chase somewhere else.

For what it's worth, Anthony said on Monday that the Knicks' slow start is affecting the team's confidence.

"Everybody’s kind of shaken up a little bit, not knowing how to figure it out, not knowing what’s going on," Anthony said. "I don’t know if it’s a lot of distractions or things like that but I don’t want to make excuses because we’re just not putting forth the effort."

Metta out: Knicks coach Mike Woodson said that Metta World Peace will miss Tuesday's Pistons game to mourn a death in his family. His sister, Shalice Holmes-Taylor, died earlier this month.

World Peace sat out of Saturday's game with a sore left knee, according to the team.

"Our condolences goes out to his family and Metta. But he’ll return soon,” Woodson said.

Chandler hopes to be back in early December: Tyson Chandler will meet with Knicks doctors on Wednesday and hopes to get clearance to progress in his rehab. Chandler fractured his right fibula on Nov. 6. The Knicks said the next day that he'd be out four to six weeks. Chandler is still optimistic that he can return to the court in four weeks.
