Maybe the Knicks should rethink their plans to trade Iman Shumpert.

The third-year guard played his best game of the season when New York seemed to need it most, finishing with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals in a 113-83 win over Brooklyn. Shumpert was incredibly efficient, hitting 5 of 7 shots from beyond the arc.

"He looked like he had a chip on his shoulder," Carmelo Anthony said. "I think everybody looked like they had that feeling like we were tired of losing. It showed from the tipoff."

Shumpert played with plenty of emotion on Thursday. The former first-round pick celebrated after hitting one of his three third-quarter 3-pointers and nearly got into a skirmish with Brooklyn's Andray Blatche in the first half.

"We just wanted to win," he said.

The biggest takeaway from Thursday was Shumpert's shooting. For the first time this season, Shumpert looked like the same player that hit five 3-pointers in the Knicks' Game 6 loss to Indiana in May.

Since that game, things had gone a little sideways for the guard. Shumpert reportedly angered Knicks owner James Dolan over the summer by playing in just one summer league game. Shumpert then had a second knee procedure late in the summer that affected his conditioning coming into training camp. Once the Knicks got off to a slow start, Shumpert's name started to be discussed in potential trades.

All of the trade rumors seemed to be weighing on Shumpert in recent games -- but not on Thursday.

He played with an edge against Brooklyn. So, what was the difference?

"I don’t know," Shumpert said. "For whatever reason it came out tonight, so I’m happy."

If it keeps coming out, the Knicks may have to rethink their plans to ship Shumpert out of town.
