NEW YORK -- Iman Shumpert's status for Friday's game against the Boston Celtics is up in the air after the third-year guard injured his left knee against the Bulls.

Shumpert appeared to injure his knee in a collision with Chicago's Mike Dunleavy early in the third quarter.

He went to the locker room immediately after the collision and did not return.

"I guess he banged knees. He bruised his knee," Mike Woodson said. "So he's kind of like day to day so we'll get a better feel of how he feels [Thursday] morning."

Any issue involving Shumpert's left knee is a cause for concern.

Shumpert had surgery to repair ACL and meniscus tears in his left knee in April 2012. He then had a second surgical procedure on the same knee in the offseason.

Shumpert's injury could also impact his trade value.

The Knicks had been shopping Shumpert in late November and earlier this month to several teams.

Woody says Melo needs help: Woodson said Shumpert or J.R. Smith need to emerge from their recent slumps to complement Carmelo Anthony (30 points) on offense.

"We've got to get J.R. in the mix somehow in terms of being able to make big shots. ... and I need Iman to play," Woodson said. "I've got to get major play out of both of those guys for us to really be effective and play at a high level."

Smith had seven points on 2-for-8 shooting against Chicago. Shumpert went scoreless in 13 minutes.

Running men: The Knicks' 19-0 run to start the second quarter was their longest run of the season. ... Anthony (30 points, 10 rebounds) has 11 double doubles this season. He had 10 last season. ... The Knicks are 2-3 in the second game of back-to-backs.
