Mike Woodson sounded giddy about La La Anthony's recent comments about her husband's future.

La La said in an interview with Bravo TV that she "definitely" thinks that Carmelo Anthony will stay in New York. Although Woodson knows Anthony still has to decide when he becomes a free agent, the Knicks' coach certainly liked what he heard.

"I love it," Woodson said Wednesday on "The Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco Show" on ESPN New York 98.7 FM. "I am saying the same thing. I think he is going to stay, I want him to stay. I think New York fans, they need him here. I think these past three years, the way he has played has been tremendous.

"And if he ends his career here, I don't think he’ll ever look back and say, well, if I should have or could have, I just don't think that will ever be an issue. I think Melo was built for New York, and I hope he stays here as well."

Anthony plans to opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Knicks can offer the All-Star a max contract worth $129 million over five years. If Anthony signs with another team, he can make $96 million over four years. Anthony said he wants to test free agency.

"Players say a lot of things," Woodson said. "At the end of the day, I am sure he will make the right decision. None of us can make that decision for him or force his hand, but when his wife comes out and says that ... and the coach says, I think he should stay here ... it just all goes hand in hand. He will make the right decision for he and his family."

SHUMP UPDATE: Woodson said Iman Shumpert's ailing shoulder is considered day-to-day.

The team will see how the swingman feels in the morning before determining his status for Thursday's game against Cleveland.
