NEW YORK -- Here’s the math for the Knicks as they try to sneak into the playoffs in the Eastern Conference: With 14 games to play, they are four games back of the eighth-place Atlanta Hawks and 4 ½ games behind seventh-place Charlotte Bobcats.

Their next four games are against teams that are awful. All four teams enter play Thursday at least 16 games under .500.

So the Knicks can conceivably win 11 in a row.

But will it be enough to close the gap against Atlanta? The schedule gets difficult in the season's final days. Only one of the Knicks’ final 10 opponents is under .500.

So it’s going to be difficult for the Knicks to make up ground down the stretch.

And history isn’t on New York’s side. Mike Woodson & Co. are are trying to become just the third team since 1984 to make the playoffs after facing a deficit of at least five games with less than 25 games to play.

The Knicks were 6.5 games back with 21 to go.

Do you think the Knicks will end up sneaking in the playoffs?

Up Now: Ian O’Connor writes that Carmelo Anthony has the leverage in his relationship with Phil Jackson.

Ohm Youngmisuk says the Knicks win over Indiana has the Knicks thinking that they could make some playoff noise.

What’s next: The Knicks will take on the Philadelphia 76ers Friday in Philly.

Question: Do you think the Knicks can make the postseason?
