The Knicks still have a $2.5 million exception, and a vacant roster spot. According to reports, Carmelo Anthony has Kenyon Martin on his wishlist.
The New York Post’s Marc Berman reported Saturday that Anthony would approve bringing his hard-nosed former teammate to New York, according to a source. The report also includes the same source saying that New York is Martin’s first choice.
Anthony and Martin played seven seasons together in Denver. Martin is not permitted to sign with a team until the Chinese basketball season is over in February, as per his contract. The 6-foot-9 forward signed on to play with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China during the lockout.
Martin would give the Knicks a tough, defensive forward off the bench. He averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in 48 games last season with Denver, after recovering from knee surgery.
