W2W4: Knicks vs. Raptors

Here are three things to watch for in tonight's Knicks vs. Raptors matchup:

1.) The Knicks' ball movement. Click here to check out my piece on this topic. One plan Mike D'Antoni has to counter the team's stalled offense early in the season is to use Amare Stoudemire more as a screener, along with Tyson Chandler, during same possessions. It will be similar to how Stoudemire and Ronny Turiaf/Jared Jeffries played together at times last season. So far, STAT is taking advantage of the spacing with Chandler on the court too much. He's taking and missing almost double the shots from 16 to 23 feet (1.7-for-6.3 attempts per game) than he is at the rim (2.3-for-3.7), which has been his usual spot throughout his career. D'Antoni wants more balance from his star power forward.

2.) Andrea Bargnani. If Stoudemire sits again -- he's doubtful with a sprained left ankle -- and Josh Harrellson gets the start, the rookie is in for his first real NBA test guarding the Raptors' top scorer. Against the Kings, Harrellson matched up against mostly a one-dimensional back-to-the-basket player in DeMarcus Cousins. Bargnani is that, plus more. He's a poor man's Dirk Nowitzki. To prove how difficult an assignment Bargnani is, against the Knicks last season on Dec. 8, the Italian put up 41 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a near victory. That was the game in which Raymond Felton's 3-pointer bounced on the rim five times and then finally went in with 2.7 seconds left to give the Knicks the final edge, 113-110. Even though the Raptors are 1-3 to start the season, Bargnani is entering the Garden tonight on a tear. In his last three games, he's averaging 26.3 points per game. If the Knicks can contain him like a contagion, that would be a big first step in knocking off the Raptors. Of course, you can't forget about high-flying shooting guard DeMar DeRozan (16.3 ppg).

3.) Jere-my Jere-my! The newest Knick hasn't officially been welcomed in New York. If D'Antoni doesn't sub in the point guard early, expect chants for the Harvard grad from perhaps more Asians in attendance.
