Opposing PGs getting up for Lin, Knicks
By Ian Begley
If you don't think opponents are pumped up to go up against Jeremy Lin, just take a look at the numbers.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, seven of the last eight starting point guards the Knicks have gone against have scored more than their season average, including soon-to-be-39-year-old Jason Kidd’s season-high 15 points against New York on March 6th.
Of course, it's not fair to pin all of the guards' success on Lin's defense. He isn't the only one matched up against these guards. He's also been screened a bunch. And the Knicks' help defense at the rim hasn't been non-existent over the past two games. The last eight games also coincide with the return of Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire sharing the starting lineup together.
Whatever the reason, the numbers are a bit alarming.
Here's a look at how each guard has done against the Knicks over the last eight games (season average in parenthesis).
Brandon Jennings: 25 (18.9)
Tony Parker: 32 (19.5)
Jason Kidd: 15 (5.6)
*Rajon Rondo: 18 (13.6)
Kyrie Irving: 22 (18.3)
Mario Chalmers: 8 (10.8)
Jeff Teague: 18 (12.4)
Deron Williams: 38 (22.0)
* - Rondo also had 20 assists and 17 rebounds
