Knicks hire Hopla as an assistant coach
By Ian Begley
The Knicks have hired shooting coach Dave Hopla as an assistant.
According to a league source, Hopla will work specifically in player development and conduct individual drills for the Knicks, similar to the role that former assistant Kenny Atkinson served last season.
Hopla has worked with the Wizards and Raptors as a shooting consultant.
As a team, the Knick shot 44 percent from the field last season, the 18th highest percentage in the NBA. They also knocked down 33.6 percent of their 3-point attempts, ranking 21st in the league.
The Knicks are still believed to be open to adding another assistant to fill the void left by Atkinson, who left to join the Atlanta Hawks staff earlier this summer.
Former Charlotte assistant Lasalle Thompson is one of the leading candidates for the job.
