Melo: I could easily be a Net
By Ian Begley
GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Back in 2011, when the 'Melo-Drama' was in full effect, Carmelo Anthony often imagined what it would be like to suit up for the Brooklyn Nets.
"When I used to sit back and reflect on what happened throughout that whole trade process and the whole quote, unquote Melo-Drama that was going on, I could have easily been sitting there with a Brooklyn Nets jersey on at this very moment," Anthony said on Tuesday, two days before the Knicks open the regular season against the Brooklyn Nets.
Anthony, of course, was eventually dealt to the Knicks in a three-team deal in February 2011. But rumors persisted in the previous weeks and months that he might have ended up a Net.
"I don't think about it no more though," Anthony said.
Anthony complimented the job GM Billy King and assistant GM Bobby Marks did in assembling the team -- with an assist from Mikhail Prokhorov's money.
"(After) not signing anybody (in free agency), for their owner to come out ... and say, 'Tell the front office to go get me a team coming into Brooklyn, I think (King) did a great job of doing that," said Anthony, who was born in the borough but raised in Baltimore. "They had to go into Brooklyn with a good team or Brooklyn would have been in an uproar."
