K-Mart signs second 10-day contract
By Ian Begley
The Knicks signed forward Kenyon Martin to a second 10-day contract on Tuesday. Now the question is: When will the veteran big man get back on the court?
Kenyon Martin played five minutes during the Knicks' victory over Golden State on Feb. 27.
Martin, 35, played just five minutes during his first 10-day deal with the team, but coach Mike Woodson and the front office are optimistic that Martin can eventually fill a void on the Knicks' thin from line.
Days after the Martin signing, the Knicks announced that Rasheed Wallace would be out for approximately eight weeks following surgery to repair a fracture in his left foot.
At the end of this 10-day contract, the Knicks must decide if they want to keep Martin for the rest of the season. Woodson has been hesitant to play Martin because he is unfamiliar with the team's offense and the Knicks have been in close games during Martin's first 10 days with the team.
Martin, however, is expected to be with the team for the rest of the season due to its lack of depth in the frontcourt. That could change if Martin gets hurt or if there is a need at another position.
