Anthony injured his shoulder in the second half of Sunday's game against Indiana but has said that the injury is a minor one. Woodson said Anthony decided to sit out on Wednesday to get ready for the start of the Knicks' first-round series against the Boston Celtics. Game 1 is expected to be on Saturday.
Kidd and Smith will sit out to gear up for the playoffs as well.
"They could use the rest. .... We'll spend Thursday and Friday getting ready for the Celtics," Woodson said. "Their legs should be good and ready to go."
Kenyon Martin will not play Wednesday, missing his fifth straight game due to a sprained left ankle. But Martin said Wednesday that he will be ready for the postseason.
"You’ve got to cut this thing off for me not to be ready," Martin said.
The 35-year-old veteran was in significant pain after spraining his ankle on April 9. But he said the swelling has subsided.
"I couldn’t lift my foot up, so I thought the worst automatically," Martin said. "Just the pain I was in. I never had an ankle sprain like that."
Martin might practice Thursday. Tyson Chandler, who has missed 16 of the Knicks' past 20 games due to a neck ailment, will return to practice Thursday, Woodson said.
With all of the regulars sidelined, Woodson expects newcomer Quentin Richardson to get extensive minutes against the Hawks.
Woodson said the Knicks can use Richardson during the postseason in a "crunch" situation if the team is besieged by injuries.
"I think he could help us. He brings something that I like: he can make shots and defensively he's a tough competitor," Woodson said.
NO RUNNING FOR AMAR'E: Woodson said Amar'e Stoudemire has not started to run yet in his rehabilitation from knee surgery.
"He's gradually coming along and everything has been positive and in his favor, so that's a good sign," Woodson said. "I don't know what the plans are, when they plan to put him on the floor to start running. So we've just got to still take it a day at a time and he's got to listen to the medical people."
Woodson has said that he expects Stoudemire to return during the postseason.
