NEW YORK -- Former New York Knicks great Patrick Ewing has reached an agreement to become an assistant head coach with the Charlotte Bobcats, a league source confirmed.

Ewing will coach under longtime friend and first-year head coach Steve Clifford. He will also be working for friend and former rival Michael Jordan, who owns the Bobcats.

ANALYSIS: You know what they say: if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Ewing could never lift the Knicks to a title during Jordan's reign so he's agreed to work for him.

We wonder how the Knicks feel about this move. Ewing attended a ton of Knicks games last season and even sat next to owner James Dolan during one of them, fueling speculation that the Knicks were thinking of offering Ewing a job.

Ewing turned down the opportunity to coach the Knicks' D-League team, the Erie BayHawks, last summer. According to a league source, he still desires a head coaching gig in the NBA. The Bobcats' job under first-year coach Clifford is a good step toward that goal.
