That may have surprised many fans and outside observers because Anthony isn't overly demonstrative on the court (think Kevin Garnett) and he doesn't publicly talk about an insatiable desire to win (think Kobe Bryant).
But Anthony says his "killer instinct" comes from within. He says he doesn't have to show it on the court.
"That's just my mindset as a whole," he said on Sunday. "Whether I show it emotionally, I don't think I have to do that. My thing is to get out there on the basketball court and do what I have to do to win the basketball game [and] to try to make everybody better. Having a killer instinct actually comes from within. I don't actually have to show you that I have a killer instinct. Either you have it or you don't."
WOODY SAYS "GOOD CHANCE" KNICKS KEEP A BIG: Due to uncertainty on the front line, Mike Woodson said it's likely that the Knicks will add one of the big men they invited to training camp to their regular season roster. That group consists of forwards Ike Diogu and Josh Powell and center Cole Aldrich. The Knicks also invited 6-10 F/C Jeremy Tyler to camp, but he is expected to miss the preseason due to a broken bone in his foot.
"Powell and Ike and Cole, they're competing for a spot. One of them has a good chance to make it," Woodson said.
SHUMP BACK ON THE FLOOR: After missing two practices with a sore right shoulder, Iman Shumpert participated in a full practice on Sunday.
The Knicks did not scrimmage, but Woodson said that Shumpert could have taken contact, if necessary.
Shumpert hurt his shoulder on Thursday and was held out of practice for precautionary reasons. Also, injured shooting guard J.R. Smith was seen shooting around the perimeter with two Knicks staffers. Smith is rehabbing after offseason knee surgery.
VETS WON'T PLAY MUCH EARLY IN PRESEAON: Woodson said he's going to use the early preseason games to give his young players a chance to play. That means Toure' Murry, Chris Smith, C.J. Leslie, Chris Douglas-Roberts and the big men mentioned above all should get opportunities to play in early contests.
Woodson said he plans to have a set rotation by the last or second-to-last preseason game. ... The Knicks did not scrimmage on Sunday but Woodson said they will have a "hard" practice on Monday. Their first preseason game is on Wednesday.
