W2W4: Knicks at Nuggets
By Ian Begley
Here are a few things to keep an eye on during Friday night's Knicks-Nuggets game:
Unhappy homecoming:Carmelo Anthony will play in Denver for the second time since he was traded from the Nuggets to the Knicks in February 2011.
In his first appearance at the Pepsi Center last March, he scored just nine points on 3-for-12 shooting before injuring his knee. He walked off the court in the middle of the third quarter as Nuggets fans chanted, "Who needs Melo?"
This time around, Anthony's Knicks are suffering through a seven-game losing streak. That's the longest losing streak of Anthony's career (in games in which he's played). The Knicks haven't lost eight straight since Feb. 2010.
According to STATS LLC, Anthony's averaged 29.6 points per game during the Knicks' skid but hasn't had much help from his teammates. New York has scored an average of 88.4 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting in the last five games, per STATS.
D-sgraceful: The Knicks enter play tonight ranked 25th in defensive efficiency (a measure of points allowed per 100 possessions). If recent history is any indication, they will have their hands full against Denver.
Per STATS LLC, Denver has scored 108.2 points per game in its last 11 games. That's the second-highest point total in the NBA during that span.
The Nuggets have won four straight, shooting 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc during the streak, according to STATS.
