DALLAS -- Prior to the New York Knicks' shootaround in preparation for their Sunday night game against the Dallas Mavericks, Carmelo Anthony made light of recent reports that the Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers have had internal discussions of a possible Melo-for-Blake Griffin deal.
Anthony was asked whether he’s ever had discussions in a playful or joking manner with Clippers guard Chris Paul about the idea of playing together.
“Everybody always says that they want to play with this guy or play with that guy,” Anthony said. “Me and Chris have been rumored to play together since he [went to LA], there were always trade rumors to try to get us together. It never happens.”
ESPN reported Friday night that both the Knicks and Clippers have had internal discussions about a potential blockbuster trade. The idea of such a proposal was ridiculed by Clippers coach Doc Rivers.
“Please, this is stupid,” Rivers said, according to ESPN.com. "If you're the Knicks or whoever, would you want Blake Griffin? I would. So I don't see what the story is."
