A day after his grievance was officially settled, Francisco Rodriguez threw off the mound in the bullpen of his Venezuelan winter-league team, Tiburones de La Guaira. K-Rod had surgery in mid-August to repair a torn right thumb ligament, so stepping on the mound at this point clearly suggests there should be no health issues entering spring training.
K-Rod intends to pitch for the winter-league team by early November.
"He wants to pitch," Tiburones manager Carlos Subero told Ultimas Noticias reporter Eliezer Perez in Spanish. "This could be the year we see the most of 'The Kid.'"
Also Wednesday, Toronto Blue Jays special assistant Dana Brown became the sixth candidate to interview for the GM job with Jeff Wilpon and John Ricco. Frontrunner Sandy Alderson is due back at Citi Field on Thursday. The finalists will interview with principal owner Fred Wilpon and team president Saul Katz next week.
