Mets' payroll currently at paltry $106.5 million

NEW YORK -- It's no secret that the New York Mets do not operate like a large-market franchise. Or a mid-size-market franchise, for that matter.

But just how low is the payroll right now?

Well, the rough estimate is $106,517,500. And that's with only a righty-hitting backup corner outfielder and setup man potentially left on the organization's shopping list. (Sorry, Festivus passed and there will be no Yoenis Cespedes.)

Because neither the Mets nor Michael Cuddyer will disclose the buyout terms, that's not included in the payroll estimate. Regardless, that money isn't going to on-field performance in 2016, anyway.

Listed below are 27 players -- not the 25 on the active roster at any given time -- as the Mets will be paying Zack Wheeler to be on the disabled list the first half of the season, and because Jenrry Mejia is not due to return from suspension until late July, after serving 99 more games. Only $1 million is included for Mejia's salary, as that's a fair estimate of the prorated portion of his full-year salary for the time he is active. A round $600,000 is used for players not yet eligible for arbitration. A $600,000 salary is also being used for the still-unsigned backup outfielder, although that obligation should end up higher unless the Mets strike out and end up going with someone already within the organization.

So here's the math:

David Wright $20M

Curtis Granderson $16M

Neil Walker $10.5M (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Asdrubal Cabrera $8.25M

Bartolo Colon $7.25M

Lucas Duda $6.7M (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Addison Reed $5.8125 (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Alejandro De Aza $5.75M

Matt Harvey $4.25M (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Jerry Blevins $4M

Jeurys Familia $3.85M (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Ruben Tejada $2.58M (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Juan Lagares $2.5M

Mejia $1M

Carlos Torres $875K (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Travis d'Arnaud $600K

Kevin Plawecki $600K

Wilmer Flores $600K

Michael Conforto $600K

Yet-unsigned righty-hitting OF $600K

Jacob deGrom $600K

Noah Syndergaard $600K

Steven Matz $600K

Wheeler $600K

Josh Edgin $600K (arbitration-eligible/estimate)

Two among Erik Goeddel, Hansel Robles and Sean Gilmartin $1.2M

TOTAL: $106.5175M
