Coaches, scouts now free agents

As the calendar flipped to November, several people with Mets ties became free agents. That's because the contracts of the coaching staff and most scouts have expired.

It is still believed that Chip Hale and Dan Warthen should stay on the major league staff -- with Hale a shot at becoming manager, or otherwise remaining third base coach. Additionally, ownership has indicated Howard Johnson and Randy Niemann should have some roles in the organization if not on the major league staff. So that leaves first base coach Razor Shines and bench coach Dave Jauss, both of whom had previous ties to Jerry Manuel, as the most likely goners.

According to a source with organization ties, the Mets have yet to start arranging interviews with prospective managers.
