Fernando Martinez (right knee) and Daniel Murphy (left hamstring) were in New York on Monday to be examined by team doctor Struan Coleman at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The team expects to announce results on Tuesday.
The team described Martinez's knee trouble as stiffness -- the same term used in August when the outfield prospect landed on the disabled list with Triple-A Buffalo. Of course, that time, Martinez did not play in another meaningful game until starting once last week with Escogido in the Dominican Republic, after which he was again shut down. This time, Martinez described the trouble to ESPN's Enrique Rojas as "pain."
Murphy, who is playing second base with Aguilas in the Dominican Republic, has a sore left hamstring, according to the organization.
