Ronny Paulino, speaking from New York, where he will complete a physical Thursday, told ESPN's Enrique Rojas he is not resigned to being a backup to Josh Thole who only faces left-handers.

"I'm training to fight for the position," Paulino said. "No one has a regular job yet. I feel like I have a strong commitment to address the confidence and the opportunity offered to me by the Mets."

Paulino also addressed having eight games remaining on a 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

"It was a difficult time, but I cope because of the great support I received from my family, and my teammates know what happened. This is a second opportunity I have and I'm not missing it," Paulino said.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
