Sandy Alderson said he has not had any contact with Omar Minaya since dining with the former GM in early January. And while Alderson seemed to indicate some position was available for Minaya in the organization if his predecessor wanted it, Alderson also said Minaya would need to reach out at this point.
Minaya is under contract through 2012 at roughly $1.1 million annually.
“We have not talked since, but we continue to have a good relationship,” Alderson said, referring to the early January dinner. “I’d say at this point, he will when he deems it appropriate give me another call and we’ll see where that goes.
“If you look at it from Omar’s perspective, coming back to the organization will involve a certain adjustment from his standpoint. Psychologically, emotionally, he’s got a lot invested here [with] the position he had over all of those years. Coming back and interacting with many of the same people in a different capacity is a change. I think anybody would need some time adjust to that.
“I don’t think you should read into anything that’s happened so far. I think this is just what happens when there’s a transition, and I think you’ve got to give people some space to figure out what they want to do.”
