Turns out, when Jerry Manuel estimated John Maine threw his fastball 85 percent of the time on Wednesday, the manager was being conservative. ESPN Stats & Information had Maine throwing 97 fastballs in 101 pitches while tossing six-plus innings.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a .143 average (3-for-21) against Maine, while the previous four opponents hit .436 (17-for-39).

Maine's strike percentage was 66.0, up from the 59.4 percent he had produced entering the outing.

He had 16 swinging strikes Wednesday, versus nine total entering his latest appearance.

Maine also had more strikeouts against the Dodgers (nine) than he had in his other outings combined (seven).
