Terry Collins said he will meet Monday morning with Sandy Alderson to discuss the fate of Oliver Perez, with the southpaw part of that meeting at some point. It's clear Perez is not breaking camp with the Mets, so the only question is whether the team immediately releases Perez or waits a little longer. Perez allowed consecutive homers to the first two batters he faced Saturday, has an 8.38 ERA and is not a legitimate candidate in the lefty specialist race.
Collins said Monday morning was the quickest opportunity for everyone to assemble since he and the GM were at different split-squad sites Saturday and the bus left early Sunday for the road game in Jupiter.
"We're going to sit down tomorrow morning and come up with the plan we want to put in place," Collins said. "... We talked on the phone, but we want to sit down and continue the discussion. We're going to probably include Oliver in some of it."
