BUFFALO 3, ROCHESTER 2: Lucas Duda came through in the clutch for the Buffalo Bisons. The Herd's 2010 Most Valuable Player had a tiebreaking eighth-inning homer to lift the Bisons over Rochester at Frontier Field. Duda's second blast of the season allowed Buffalo to a split a four-game series with the Red Wings. After 42 extra-base hits in 70 games with the team in 2010, the 25-year-old slugger had just one double and no home runs in his first 17 games with Buffalo in 2011. Duda doubled in his first at-bat on Friday, driving a Yorman Bazardo pitch over the head of the speedy Ben Revere and scoring Kirk Nieuwenhuis for the game's first run. Duda then scored on single from Valentino Pascucci for a 2-0 edge. Rochester tied it at 2 in the first inning and the game stayed even until the eighth. Duda led off the inning by taking a 1-2 pitch to deep center field for the game-winning run. Duda now has three doubles and two home runs in his last five games. Jenrry Mejia started for Buffalo, but could only get through four innings. He used 39 of his 81 pitches in the first inning as the Red Wings scored their only two runs. Mike O'Connor earned the win with three innings of relief. Dale Thayer worked the eighth and ninth for his first save. The Bisons now travel to Lehigh Valley for a four-game series against the IronPigs. Jesus Feliciano finished the game 2-for-4. Box

AKRON 10, BINGHAMTON 1: The Akron Aeros used eight hits, eight walks and three Binghamton errors to defeat the B-Mets at NYSEG Stadium. It is Binghamton’s fourth consecutive loss and sixth in seven games. After scoring the game’s first run off Binghamton Mets starter Edgar Ramirez in the second inning, the Aeros added two more in the fourth off Dylan Owen. With two outs and runners on first and second, Kyle Bellows sent a drive to deep center that Lorenzo Scott could not reel in as the ball fell for a triple. The B-Mets plated their only run of the game in the fourth inning. First baseman Eric Campbell worked out a one-out walk, advanced to second on Jose Coronado’s single to right field and moved up to third when Kai Gronauer walked on four pitches. Carlos Guzman came through with his sixth RBI of the season by bringing Campbell home with a sacrifice fly to right field. The B-Mets allowed another run in the fifth before the game came undone in the sixth. After retiring the leadoff batter, reliever Eric Niesen allowed a single and walked two to load the bases. The southpaw induced Jordan Henry to bounce into a fielder’s choice as Tim Fedroff was forced out at home for the second out. The wheels would come off, though, as Niesen walked Matt Lawson to force in a run and then gave up a bases-clearing single to Juan Diaz. Brahiam Maldonado’s fielding error in left field on the hit allowed Lawson to score all the way from first base. Two pitches later, catcher Chun Chen stroked a two-run home run over the right-center wall for his second homer in two days. It was the fourth straight game in which Binghamton has allowed at least five runs in a single inning. With the 10-1 lead, the Aeros were on cruise control as relievers Chen-Chang Lee and Kyle Landis combined to post five scoreless innings. In the ninth, outfielder Raul Reyes worked around two walks to throw a scoreless inning of relief in his professional pitching debut. The B-Mets (10-12) will be back in action Saturday against the Aeros (11-11) with first pitch set for 1:05 pm. Right-hander Brandon Moore will oppose right-hander Joe Gardner. Box

ST. LUCIE 6, BRADENTON 5: The St. Lucie Mets bounced back after a tough rain-shortened loss Thursday night to defeat the Bradenton Marauders in a seesaw affair at Digital Domain Park. The win gave the Mets a series split in the four-game set that began with two games in Bradenton. Jeurys Familia got the start for the Mets and ran into trouble early, allowing a leadoff home run to Robbie Grossman. The Mets answered with two runs in their half of the first, but the lead would not last. Bradenton got to Familia for three runs in the second inning, putting the Mets in an early 4-2 hole. St. Lucie would even the score in the fifth. Doubles by Rylan Sandoval and Matt den Dekker keyed the rally, making it a 4-all score. Sandoval drove in Juan Lagares in the sixth, giving the Mets a 5-4 edge. Jarek Cunningham led the next inning off for the Marauders with a solo homer, evening the score and setting the stage for more late-inning St. Lucie heroics. With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, den Dekker doubled and was then driven in by a single from Wilmer Flores, giving the Mets the 6-5 victory. Familia got the no-decision. He tossed four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Kyle Allen bridged the gap to closer Jeff Kaplan by throwing four innings and allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Kaplan got the win, allowing one hit in the ninth inning. Den Dekker continued his offensive surge, leading the Mets’ offense with three hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Flores had two hits and drove in three runs. Jefry Marte and Sandoval each had two hits in the win. The Mets improved to a Florida State League-best 19-4. The Mets kick off a three-game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads on Saturday night at Digital Domain Park. Scott Moviel makes his fifth start. Moviel is 3-0 with a 2.66 ERA and 11 strikeouts to five walks over 23 2/3 innings. Box

DELMARVA 7, SAVANNAH 5: The Delmarva Shorebirds completed another come-from-behind victory and a five-game sweep at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. The Sand Gnats (7-14) have now lost a season-high seven straight games. Second baseman Wilfredo Tovar extended his hitting streak to eight straight games with a ninth-inning single, tying the Gnats’ 2011 team-high set by Sam Honeck. For the fifth game during their seven-game losing streak, the Gnats held a lead. Friday, Gnats shortstop Robbie Shields scored twice early to give the Gnats a 2-0 advantage. In the second inning, Shields homered, his first long ball of 2011, to open the scoring. In the fourth, he walked and came around to score on DH Blake Forsythe’s RBI double. Savannah starter Greg Peavey held the Shorebirds to a single run in his five innings. Peavey struck out four and walked two and handed the bullpen a 2-1 lead in the sixth. The Shorebirds (13-9) attacked reliever Guillaume Leduc in the sixth for four runs to take a 5-2 lead. A leadoff single and a walk put two men aboard for catcher Justin Dalles, who stroked a three-run home run to right-center to give Delmarva a 4-2 lead. The Birds added another run in the sixth against Leduc and two more in the seventh against Luis Rojas for a 7-2 advantage. The Gnats got close late, but couldn’t complete the comeback. In the eighth, left fielder Cory Vaughn doubled. RBI singles from third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez and Shields brought Savannah within three runs. In the ninth, two infield hits and a Delmarva throwing error pulled the Gnats within 7-5. Vaughn, who had two hits in the game, was hit by a pitch to put the tying runs on base, but Honeck struck out to end the threat and the game. Saturday, Savannah heads to Lakewood, N.J., to begin a four-game series against the back-to-back South Atlantic League champion Lakewood BlueClaws. The Gnats will send right-hander Ryan Fraser (0-3, 4.50) to the hill Saturday against left-hander Mario Hollands (2-1, 1.93) for Lakewood. Box
