Angel Pagan's running catch in the ninth inning prompted this response from Terry Collins: "Is that the guy that I’ve been waiting to see that we’ve all heard about."
Pagan finished with a season-high three hits. Since returning from the 15-day disabled list on May 27, Pagan his hitting .412 (7-for-17). In the process, he's raised his batting average from .159 to .209.
"It's great to be back," Pagan said. "I feel great."
• After notching a season-high 17 hits without a homer on Sunday, the Mets followed it up with a 15-hit, no-homer performance on Monday.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, it's just the second time in Mets history that they've had 15-plus hits in consecutive games without a homer.
• The Mets failed to hit a home run for the ninth consecutive game, the team's longest such stretch since June 21-27, 1982, when the club also went nine games without a homer. The team has also gone nine straight home games without going deep, the club's longest drought since a 10-game stretch from Sept. 9-20, 1979. Daniel Murphy hit the Mets' last home run on May 20. Jason Pridie hit the team's last home run at Citi Field on May 6.
